ISRAEL MAY 2006
What a fabulous country. We experienced so much
in such a short space of time. Pia, Yiftach, Emma and Daniel all live in a
Kibbutz called Kfar Blum. It is in the north of Israel near the Lebanese and
Syrian borders and a short drive from the Golan Heights. We flew into Tel
Aviv where after some challenges with immigration we were met by Yiftach who
had driven down to pick us up. Israel is truly a country of contrast. The
south is mostly desert but the further north you get it becomes more and
more of a green oasis. Driving through the country is like a tour through
the bible, with so many familiar places....Jericho, Jeusalem, Bethlehem, and
the Sea of Galilee to name a few. We spent 5 days at the Kibbutz where we
received just amazing hospitality from Pia, Yiftach and all of Yiftach's
family. We were made to feel so welcome, I am sure that it won't be long
before we return. After trips into the Golan Heights, The Sea of Galilee and
an amazing spa we headed south to the Dead Sea. Words cannot describe how
strange it is to float in the water. Absolutely amazing! We had a barbecue
on the banks of the Dead Sea before watching the sun go down. For fear of
ridicule, I won't mention my encounter with a jackal nor will I mention my
sleepless night in the birdhouse. On our last day we drove into Jerusalem.
We went into the walled city and walked around Rue De La Rosa and the
wailing wall. Another unforgetable experience. Then it was time to head for
the airport and the trip home. Again I faced some minor challenges with
immigration as the girl wouldn't believe that I was the fat guy in the
picture on my passport. She asked for further I.D. and all I had was my
American drivers license. Not much use either. Fortunately Yiftach managed
to persuade her that it was me and we flew home. Thanks again to Pia,
Yiftach, Emma, Daniel and all of Yiftach's family and friends for an
unforgettable trip. We will be back! |
